Known limits
MeerLingo is in private beta on Mac.
- It needs macOS Accessibility permission to read your selection. macOS sometimes turns this off after an update, and the app will guide you to turn it back on.
- Some apps don’t share their selected text. MeerLingo then tries copying it, if you allow that, or you can use screen text recognition.
- Apple Translation needs its languages downloaded in System Settings. Apple Intelligence needs a supported Mac with it turned on.
- Google Translate can limit requests. MeerLingo then moves on to its next source.
- There is no Windows version yet, and no way yet to import a data export back into the app.
Report a problem
In the app’s menu, choose MeerLingo > Report a Problem. It opens an email with a diagnostics report that you can read or remove before sending. It holds versions, permissions, error codes and weekly counts, never what you looked up. You can also write to meerlingo@protonmail.com.
Uninstall
- If you have an account you no longer want, delete it first in Settings > Account. Removing the app doesn’t delete it or cancel a subscription.
- Quit MeerLingo from the menu bar.
- Drag MeerLingo from Applications to the Trash.
- To remove your words and settings too, delete the folder
~/Library/Application Support/MeerLingo. This can’t be undone, so export your data first if you may want it. - In System Settings > Privacy & Security, remove MeerLingo from Accessibility and Screen Recording.
